I was having a 6.7 mm kidney stone previous year in month of december. That time the stone was stuck in ureter so I was operated with eswl surgery. But now this year 2021 (august) I felt pain in left back side. Then I did ultrasound and also ct scan and result was there was a 8 mm stone in lower pole of left kidney and a 2 mm stone in left puj. My doctor prescribed tamfil s and said no need to do surgery and said no need to be worried. But my question is whether there will be any problem if that 8 mm stone stays inside for long time I mean for months? My age- 21.

Once a stone former always a stone former! drink 2 litres of water as a rule daily forever. Non obstructive like the one you have in lower pole of left kidney generally do not cause problems and can be left alone. Regular 6 monthly usg evaluation will minimise possiblity of any complication in your case.

Upj stone and kidney stone of 8 mm needs some therapy. Lower pole stone are not amenable to eswl. They need endoscopic removal. 8 mm is somewhat bigger stone. Your total stone load is 8+2 mm = 1 cms. Guidelines say 1 cms renal stone require intervention. Also you will need metabolic workup after stone removal to assess the cause of recurrent stone formation.
